OVERDOSE

MATHS--a  subject  full off problems, complications and derivations. Sometimes it comes in steps to prove some unusual mystery. Sometimes it comes as curves  and lines to construct some figures.
During an open house I saw my student getting scolded by her father  for the silly mistakes she did in her maths paper .  Her father was very caring. He used to come all the way from overseas to attend each open house.my student was very brilliant student but always failed to prove her capability in maths.
Maths is a mysterious subject.I remember my school days. days of defence life in defence school where  every gentlemen was a soldier.  the days there used to start and end with calculation. Where circle meant the jogging track of army cadets. Straight line meant the runaway for aviators. Where angle of deviation and inclination was used for firing practice. Where all the dad's where champion of maths. All  my friends used to complete maths homework under their dad's guidence  my dad too was topper in maths. So he was my maths teacher.
I too was good in maths but always used to do silly mistakes in maths test. I was never fond of maths like my dad.when the choice came in my hands after 12th standard cbse board exam results, than I prefered chemistry rather than maths.
chemistry was colourful subject , with lot of reactions and bondings. It gave me a previledge  of holding a merit rank in university list. It gave me 7th position in my college. And a post graduation degree. The only problem in  chemistry was a tinge of maths in the form of physical chemistry which always affected my percentage .
I never understood why I never was fond of maths. But I wanted to know why I never liked maths. Today my student was facing the same problem which I faced long back. So I thought may be she knows the reason which I failed to find.
The open house was over.the next day in school I met that student and asked her what is her problem and why she is facing difficulties in maths only.
Her reply was very honest and convincing. I got my answers through her reply. She said,
"Mam, my father is genius in maths. He is accountant in MNC. He loves me a lot and teaches me maths himself . But he teaches me all the time through additional calculation in bills and homework. I don't hate maths but he involves me too much. I don't want too much of it. I also need break. Since I'm not getting I'm loosing interest. "

I think she was right. She was facing too much maths in her life .during my school days I too faced too much of maths. That was the reason we were running away from it. Overdose killed  interest in the subject otherwise we were blessed with the environment which could have made us great legends like Aryabhatt or Archemedes.

My poetry is based on our topic Overdose  .the title of my poetry is 'ati' meaning excess or Overdose.

                         Ati
 Santulan chalaye srishti ki gati
Kami laye kshati, pralay laye ati

Alp ho toh kshati, utpaat machaaye ati
